Commercial Fire Prevention

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are concerned about the increase in commercial fires of various types in NE Lincolnshire in the past three months.

Geoff Allen, the Community Safety Manager over at the Peaks Lane Fire Station, said, "On examination of these fires many could have been avoided by improved housekeeping within the businesses affected. The number of accidental fires in the previous 3 mths is 123 and the number of commercial fires started deliberately is 48. This represents a large increase. I am keen to work with commercial enterprises, large and small in reducing the opportunity for fire at these property. Any business can have free advice and information and a site visit from a fire prevention expert by calling Humberside Fire and Rescue on 01472 372500."

The arson text line is 07940 737141.

Meanwhile, please think about the following reminders;

Consider increasing the frequency of waste/cardboard collections

Review the security of your external areas (rear yards are particularly prone to arson attacks)

Ensure waste containers are kept locked

Move waste and waste containers away from buildings to prevent a bin fire spreading to the inside of your buildings.

A bad example maybe but even an unsecured skip could cause problems
